Novena to Saint Kateri Tekawitha to stop the
Dakota Access Pipeline
Please pray this Novena in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other communities that are resisting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. A novena is prayed for 9 days and may be repeated.
Saint Kateri Tekawitha
Lily of the Mohawks,
Beautiful flower among the people,
Who puts all things in their proper place.
We give thanks for the gift of life
that we see manifested in the beauty of the natural Creation,
which declares the glories of God.
Teach us to conserve, and not waste;
to cultivate, and not ravage;
to heal, and not pollute.
Help us to become good stewards of Creation,
as we learn to care for people,
care for Creation,
and have a care for the future,
so that our children’s children
may rejoice in the bounty of nature,
and our sister and brother creatures --
the plants, the birds, the fish, the animals of the land --
may have room to grow, blossom, fly, and swim
as the Creator of all intended from the Beginning of all things seen and unseen.
Lead us to repentance for our sins against Creation,
the future, our fellow human beings
and the creatures of land, air, and water
with whom we share this planet.
Give us courage to seek the right ways
and to end our intemperate exploitation of the gifts of nature.
Teach us to abandon that which destroys God’s wondrous Creation.
For the sake of all that live now
and who will come after us,
help us to live lightly upon the land.
Help us protect the good earth and the waters,
the plants, the birds, the fish,
the animals, great and small,
from all demons who prowl about the world,
seeking to destroy and devastate these glories of God.
Bring their demonic plans to failure, confusion, and ruination.
Help us stop the outrageous greed, gluttony, and lust for power
that exploits our mother the Earth
as manifested by the construction of this Dakota Access Pipeline through these beloved lands.
Grant strength and hope to all who defend God’s Creation.
Lead us in paths of prudence, temperance, patience, and fortitude
so that the way we live glorifies God and not greed,
teaches peace, not war,
brings beauty, not destruction,
and cultivates wisdom, not devastation.
All-blest and venerable St. Kateri Tekawitha,
we praise you, for you are our teacher,
revealing things divine!
Pray for us that we may be made
worthy of the promises of Christ.
O God, Who by the life of St. Kateri Tekawitha
has given us an example of fortitude
in the face of persecution,
grant that we who reverence her life may also imitate
her example of fidelity to
wisdom, truth, justice, beauty, and the care of Creation,
through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Our Father. . . Glory Be. . . Hail Mary. . .
