Pathways to Justice and Peace. . . a labyrinth of discovery. . .
N.B.: The Justpeace website is not well organized. There are actually hundreds of pages here and the site index is way out of date. I first published this website to the Internet in 1997, and it has grown since then, one page at a time, without any overall plan or organizing scheme. I know it would be nice to have an up to date site index, and it is on the list of things to do, but that is a Very Long List, and it has yet to make it anywhere close to the top 100. Generally, the links on this page from here on are chronological, with the most recent just below this "Nota Bene", and going further back towards 1997 from there down. The Site Index has links to the pages here as of 2001. Pages since then are generally linked on this page or on pages linked to this page.

Better Times Almanac of Useful Information, 5th edition, Internet Edition
The Better Times Almanac is useful for anyone who wishes to live more frugally, simply, and sustainably. We consider the proper care and stewardship of Creation to be part of the social justice ministry of the Church, and this publication can help people to do this. Pope John Paul II was a Catholic environmentalist, and we follow his teaching in encouraging simple and frugal living. The fifth edition was a 32 page tabloid newspaper size publication, which is now out of print, but it lives on at http://www.bettertimesinfo.org/2004index.htm . Donation checks should be made payable to the Oscar Romero Catholic Worker House. Donations of $15 or more will receive a copy of the CD, Venite Adoremus, improvisational piano meditations on Advent, Nativity, and Epiphany melodies, recorded live at Epiphany Church by Robert Waldrop.

Magnificat anima mea Dominum!
God has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart, God has thrown down the rulers from their thrones, but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. Mary, Queen of Justice, Pray for Us!
This site opened December 22, 1997, the Memorial of St. Anastasia of Sirmium. On that day, in Acteal, Chiapas, Mexico, 49 Mayan people praying in a church -- 21 women (4 were pregnant), 15 children, and 9 men -- were murdered by paramilitary forces who had been organized and trained by the Mexican Army, while the national police force nearby refused to intervene to protect the people. See The Acteal Massacre for more information.
Holy Martyrs of Acteal, pray for us.

Three billion people live on less than $2.00 a day. One billion 300 million people live on less than $1.00 a day. The number of people living on less than $1/day increased by 30% during the past 10 years.
Among the poor of this world, infant mortality is rising, daily caloric intake is decreasing, deadly epidemics are raging, & life expectancies are declining, with several countries approaching negative population growth due to rapidly rising mortality rates. Such are the consequences of the Globalization of Greed and Economic Tyranny.
