About Better Times

This page has some of the text of a cookbook that has been published twice in tabloid newspaper format: 2,000 copies, 28 pages, in 1996, distributed free of charge in Oklahoma City through Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul groups; 4,000 copies, in 1998, 36 pages, distributed free of charge in Kansas City, Missouri through Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul, and parish foodbanks.

First printing funds were raised by the Catholic students at Oklahoma City University, and the project was carried out under the auspices of Catholic Action at OCU. Text is by yours truly, Robert Waldrop. Recipes were taught to me by family members, invented/adapted on my own initiative, and gathered from cookbooks published by church and community groups (including some recipes originally from the 1955 Hollister (Oklahoma) Methodist Ladies Cookbook and the 1933 Ft. Augur & Pleasant Valley Cookbook (also Oklahoma), a few found on the internet. Printing for the expanded 2nd edition were raised from internet contacts and Catholic organizations in the KC area.

Better Times 5th Edition, published in print and an internet edition, Thanksgiving Day 2004. Check it out for new recipes, more articles, even better access to simple, frugal, and sustainable living. Get your own free copy of the print edition! Click the link for details.
